Installation

1. Choose the right anchor points carefully. To ensure that rock anchoring devices work effectively, you should only use them in solid, qualified rock (Class 0 soil).

2. Drill holes in the rock with a main pipe to a depth of at least 12 inches, making sure that the anchor is in line with the person. This will help ensure that the anchor can be properly secured.

3. Make sure to drill holes with a diameter that is 1/8 inch larger than the anchor's unexpanded diameter. This will allow for proper expansion and anchoring.

5. Pre-drill a hole that is the appropriate size and depth for the chosen anchor rod. 

6. Insert the anchor into the hole and begin turning the rod using a rod through the eye until the anchor is fully expanded on the side of the hole. 

7. In some cases, removing the wedge ties can help promote wedge expansion. 

8. For hard rock soil (class 0), drilling a 12 inch deep rock anchor using a 3/4-inch rod with a minimum final strength of 23,000 pounds or a 1-inch rod with a minimum ultimate strength of 36,000 pounds will develop the full strength of the anchor.

Grouting after rock anchor installation is an excellent way to enhance the durability of the rock structure. By using a funnel and PVC grouting pipe, the grout material can be injected into the hole and down to the top of the wedge. This process ensures that the grouting material fully covers the drilled rock surface, preventing it from weathering over time.

To ensure optimal results, it is recommended to prepare a flowing neat cement slurry (without aggregate) with a water to cement ratio between 0.4 to 0.45. This mixture is ideal for grouting rock anchorages. By using this technique, the grouting material is slowly introduced into the hole, filling every void and ensuring a strong and stable bond.

Grouting after rock anchor installation provides an additional layer of protection against rock degradation. By covering the drilled surface, the weathering effects can be minimized, thus extending the lifespan of the structure. Overall, grouting is a proactive approach that can improve the durability and stability of the rock structures.
