How Does The Earth Anchor Work

Jan 04, 2023|

How does the earth anchor work:

The shape of the earth anchor is actually the anchor rod + wedge-shaped grappling hook, which is connected or hinged with a sharp Angle.

When the anchor is lowered, the anchor first lies on the sea bed with the hook facing down. At this point, the anchor chain continues to more than three times the depth of the water, and the ship will drift away with the wave until the chain is straightened, thus dragging the anchor head sideways. The shape of the grappling hook, on the other hand, causes the anchor head to sink rapidly downwards into the sea bed as it is dragged sideways, sinking deeper and deeper until it is finally stuck so firmly that it cannot move even if the earth anchor chain is broken. So what looks like soft silt can anchor a massive 10,000-ton ship.
