Earth anchor leading choice for a variety of geotechnical
Aug 29, 2025| Earth anchor leading choice for a variety of geotechnical:
Percussion earth anchors are a key component of our slope stabilization solutions. They offer a highly effective and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional methods like retaining walls.
How Our Earth Anchors Work
Our earth anchors are lightweight, corrosion-resistant devices consisting of a head and a tendon, typically a steel cable. They function similarly to a toggle bolt in the soil, providing a secure and reliable hold.
The installation process is simple and efficient:
Driving: We use a drive rod and a hammer to impact-drive the anchor and its tendon into the ground to a specific depth.
Load-locking: Once the desired depth is reached, the drive rod is removed. An upward pull is then applied to the tendon, which causes the anchor head to rotate and lock itself perpendicular to the tendon. This creates a compacted cone of soil above the anchor, providing the necessary holding resistance.
Proof Testing: The anchor's holding capacity is immediately tested during the load-locking process, ensuring it's ready for use right away.
Key Applications and Benefits
Our earth anchors are suitable for a wide range of applications beyond just slope stabilization, including retaining walls, riverbank protection, and erosion control. Their versatility and effectiveness stem from several key advantages:
Cost-Effective: Our system often requires less specialized equipment and labor compared to traditional methods like soil nails or retaining walls.
Minimal Environmental Impact: The installation process doesn't require digging or excavation, which helps preserve the surrounding soil and minimize environmental disturbance.
Speed and Efficiency: They can be installed quickly and are immediately operational, helping to shorten project timelines.
Versatility: Our anchors can be used in a wide variety of soil types, from sandy to clay-rich soils.
Recent Projects and News
We have been involved in several recent projects and studies that demonstrate the effectiveness of our earth anchors. One significant area of focus is improving their performance in complex soil conditions.
The Research: We collaborated on a study with the Texas Department of Transportation, conducting field pull-out tests of our percussion earth anchors to improve their performance data in clayey soils. The results from this research are helping engineers confidently design projects that were previously difficult to plan.
Residential and Civil Infrastructure Projects: Our earth anchors were recently used to stabilize a 5.5-meter-high cut face at a new residential development in the UK. We were chosen over traditional methods like sheet piling due to our cost-effective and low-impact solution. The project used our anchors with a geotextile to create a vegetated finish, enhancing the area's aesthetics while ensuring long-term stability.
Erosion Control and Riverbank Protection: Our anchors are often integrated into larger systems for erosion control, such as with high-performance turf reinforcement mats. This combination creates a deep "artificial root system" that effectively stabilizes slopes and protects riverbanks from erosion.
The ongoing innovation and proven performance of our earth anchors make them a leading choice for a variety of geotechnical and civil engineering projects.
