Antaeus Earth anchor by percussion driven

Apr 21, 2025|

Antaeus Earth anchor by percussion driven is a type of earth anchor known for its unique installation method and reliable holding power.

Shape: The anchor body is typically shaped somewhat like a duck's bill or a flattened arrowhead, often made of galvanized steel for strength and corrosion resistance.

Installation: Unlike screw or plate anchors that require digging or drilling, duckbill anchors are driven into the ground using manual driving tools or small power equipment. This minimizes soil disturbance.

Locking Mechanism: The earth anchor is attached to a steel cable or rod (tendon). Once driven to the desired depth, the driving tool is removed. A pull upwards on the tendon rotates the anchor body within the soil. This rotation causes the anchor to pivot and lock into a perpendicular "load lock" position in undisturbed soil. This locked position provides significant holding capacity.

No Above-Ground Obstructions: Once installed, there are no protruding rods or plates at the surface, making it safer and preventing interference with landscaping or machinery.

Versatility: Antaeus earth anchors come in various sizes and holding capacities to suit a wide range of applications.

How it Works (in simple terms):

Think of it like a toggle bolt in the soil.

Drive: The earth anchor is hammered into the ground.

Remove Driver: The tool used to drive the anchor is taken out.

Pull: Pulling on the attached cable or rod causes the anchor to flip sideways.

Lock: The flipped anchor now has a large surface area resisting upward pull, effectively anchoring the object.
